An easy way to make a statement in a room is by bringing in an unexpected element. This could be anything from an old antique that you may have fixed up or using something for a different purpose then it is intended to be used for; like a basket as a light. Even a pop of color in an all white room serves as an unexpected element.
No matter what it is make sure it serves a purpose, you never want to bring something into a room for no reason. When decorating a room many people think that they have to stick to a style, but that’s not true! I think that one of the best pieces of advice for a decorator would be to think outside the box and remember rules are meant to be broken. Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles, as long as there is a consistency the room will still come together seamlessly.
